What is the meaning of the CAT model part number?
– CAT style teeth can be easily identified by their part numbers. The key to doing this is to understand the meaning of certain digits of the part number.
– The 4th and 5th digits are the most important. These indicate which family the tooth belongs to.
– The 6th digit indicates the outline of the tooth. If this number is followed by letters, then these letters will indicate the outline of the tooth, not the 6th digit.
– Finally, the 7th, 8th and sometimes 9th digit will also indicate the manufacturer’s information. The contour of the tooth is the level at which it can penetrate and therefore determines the most suitable application for the tooth.
– The 4th and 5th digits are “35” indicating that this is a J350 series tooth family. (The “35” also represents the width of the tooth in inches.)
– The 6th digit in this example is meaningless because it is followed by 3 letters
– The “WTL” in this case indicates that the tooth is of the TWIN TIGER style.
Example 2 – The tooth part number is 9W8452.
– The 4th and 5th digits are “45” indicating that this is a tooth family of the J450 series. The measurement on the back of the tooth is 4.5″
– The 6th digit is “2” indicating that this is a standard long tooth
